This November, the soundtrack to 50 Cent’s biopic “Get Rich or Die Tryin’” drops.  The film, loosely based on 50's life, chronicles the rise of a Queens thug to a certified multi-million unit selling artist.  One might conclude that a biopic symbolizes your arrival, but somewhere in the midst of the hoopla, The Source magazine is questioning the slippage of the G-Unit clan via the November cover under the headline 'G-Unot.'  Could the movie's soundtrack be an early indication of the fall of a dynasty or just another chapter in the million dollar saga?

The soundtrack starts off promising with “Hustler’s Ambition,” an ode to street life:

“Check my logic, smokers don't like seeds in their weed shit
Send me them seeds i'll grow 'em what they need
Them ain't chia pet plants in the crib thats chronic
And I'm sellin them 500 a pop god damn it.”

Following suit is “What If” which finds 50 contemplating his future if he changed his swagger: “If I wore a suit everyday like Jay-Z, n*ggas’ll think I’m out my f*ckin’ head and crazy.”  “I Don’t Know Officer” features 50, Lloyd Banks, Prodigy, Spider Loc and Ma$e pleading the fifth.   Still, it’s Ma$e’s quick jab the draws the most attention: “I don’t know why Loon and Fabby just won’t say I’m their daddy…”  On “Talk About Me” 50 admits to being aware of what the masses say about him.  But, the track takes an introspective turn when he becomes the voice of his son:  “I love 50 Cent, that’s my dad/ But even my mom talks about him bad…I don’t know why but their personalities collide/ And my dad will swallow blood before he swallow his pride.”  Other standouts include “I’ll Whip Your Head Boy” and “When It Rains.”

Not surprisingly, the weakest track comes in the form of  “We Both Think Alike” featuring Olivia – the first lady of G-Unit who has yet to garner any attention. While he managed to change his flow to a staccato style, the switch proves to be a bad choice; more annoying than entertaining.  Meanwhile, the remaining dark tracks serve as filler.  Perhaps the film will breathe new life into them.  First and foremost, the soundtrack should accompany the storyline.  Whatever, the case, don't look for any bangers here.
